Central Foreign Film Club

Two Central High School teachers, Cindy Pickerel and Jennifer Callow, have established a Foreign Film Club to provide movies throughout the school year targeted for area high school students. The purpose of the club is to create an appreciation of foreign films, world cultures, and languages, while providing a format for intellectual discussions on languages, cultural issues, similarities and differences among cultures, and cultural nuances as related to the films. It will offer students the opportunity to make connections among cultures in order to increase their preparedness to interact in a global society. A different foreign film will be shown every 2nd Thursday of the month, free of charge. The public is welcome to attend and invited to participate in the discussions. Each month there will be a guest speaker to provide a brief background of the featured film, location, culture, and language. They will also be available after the movie to lead a discussion. Guests are invited to pick up a light dinner, snack, or drink at the Mean Bean on the main level of the library to enjoy during the movie. The season will begin with the Italian Academy Award winning film "Life is Beautiful" by director Roberto Benigni. Lino Ingargiola will be the featured speaker for the evening.
